Cardmaking Year in Review

As I've done in past years, I have a year in review of some of my favourite cards that I created in 2016. I can hardly believe how quickly this year has flown by! We made a lot of wonderful memories within our family these past 12 months, had a few 'personal bests' and bucket list items checked off, and let creativity shine throughout our home.

Here's my favourite family photo from this summer. Aren't we messy? I love it because we are not the 'pose pretty' kind of family, although I do have a few pictures from that day like that. Life is messy, we are silly, we love to have fun and get creative. I think it captures it all.

Favourite crafty moment from 2016?

Meeting this group of amazing women at the Stamping Away retreat in October.

In no particular order, here is a card that I love from each month of 2016.

This year I also started a series called Create Together. I was trying to encourage myself to blog more (because I like it, not because I feel like I have to), and knew if I collaborated with crafty friends I would do so. Fun challenges, no pressure, and encouraging each other to be creative.

Although I tried at first to do it once weekly, that changed by year's end and going forward in 2017 I hope to have a crafty guest every other week or so. If YOU would like to Create Together with me, send me an email (found on the top right under my profile picture). Don't be shy!

I'm looking forward to more cardmaking in 2017. Are you?
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from my home to yours. Thanks for stopping in. :)

BRI #Hashtag Stamps Blog Hop

Welcome to the Butterfly Reflections, Ink blog hop featuring exclusive stamp sets to the store! I'm excited to be hopping with a talented group of cardmakers today. Vanessa collaborated with Bossy Joscie and came up with two fabulous sets highlighting some of her favourite hashtags. I adore a good hashtag and couldn't wait to ink up these sets.

I used #Hashtag- Bossy for my card today. This one will be perfect to give to a friend of mine who recently earned a promotion. After watercolouring with Zig Clean Color markers and letting the paper dry, I stamped the sentiment in Purple Rain ink multiple times using my MISTI. Then I stamped the rest of the sentiments and backed it on sparkly cardstock.

It wouldn't be a blog hop without prizes! To be eligible to win one of two prizes: 4x6 #Hashtag Stamp Set or 3x4 #Hashtag Bossy Stamp Set, leave a comment on all blogs by Monday, December 26th at noon. Winners will be announced on the Butterfly Reflections Ink Blog on Tuesday, December 27th.

Here's a list of all the blogs participating in today's hop:

Inspired by All the Little Things #37

I just want to eat those cookies. Don't you? I hope they're gingerbread; that's my favourite kind of holiday cookie. The colours and glass jar inspired me for my card today.

I used Lawn Fawn's Ready, Set, Snow stamp and die set to create a shaker element for the main focus of my card. Paired with sequins from Little Things from Lucy's Cards, and wintry patterned paper from My Mind's Eye, it's a cute look but still having a touch of natural elegance. There's a few red embossed snowflakes on the patterned paper to draw in the red sequins in the shaker.

Head on over to the Inspired by All the Little Things blog if you haven't already, and check out what the rest of the design team has come up with. We'd love it if you could play along with us!

Create Together with Susan Opel

I have a SUPER fun Create Together guest today and a wild card to show for our collaboration!

Do you know Susan R. Opel? I bet you do. She's a wonderful friend that is funny, smart and a creative force in the cardmaking industry. Susan is the Creative Ambassador for My Favorite Things and her work there reflects her love of the English language, her bold and fun style, and her sense of humour and sparkling personality.  You can also check her out on Instagram here.

Our challenge was to watch the  2016 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show and create a card based on inspiration from it. It was my first time watching and it did not disappoint! Amazing fashion, super-star performances from Lady Gaga and more, and THOSE ANGEL WINGS. Woah. I loved the different segments the show was divided into and diligently took notes as I watched.

I took my inspiration from the first segment of the show, The Road Ahead, which was meant to represent multiculturalism and incorporate designs from around the world. Bright colours, texture and fringe, paired with sparkle and metallic elements all shone through and I tried to bring those elements into my card, while still keeping my signature fun and simplistic style.

I used the Die-namics Mini Fringe die to cut several colours of cardstock (Blu Raspberry, Electric Red, Gumdrop Green, Purple Rain, Daffodil and Ripe Raspberry) and layered them on my card base. The Die-namics Big Hello die was cut from Black Licorice cardstock and after adhering it I added some serious sparkle with a Wink of Stella marker and a very thin coat of Glossy Accents. The final touch was a thin strip of Silver Sparkle cardstock.  Check out my Instagram feed later today for another card created based on inspiration from the show.

I'm going to turn it over to Susan now. Below you will find her card and description of how she was inspired. Prepare to be amazed!!

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is always one of my very favorite events in early December. It is downright fabulous and quite the fast-paced and eye-popping spectacle. This year did not disappoint! I kept saying, “I don’t have enough eyes to see everything!” The show was originally broadcast on CBS on Monday, December 5th.

With all of the colors and themes and textures, it’s a go-to for my card making inspiration. You can see all of the looks by following this link HERE.

I was particularly inspired by the first of the six themes in the runway show, The Road Ahead. This image is an idea of where I found my inspiration — tassels, bold and saturated colors (especially bright blue), and strips of color. Truth be told, the entire The Road Ahead theme inspired my card.

For my card I used products from My Favorite Things almost exclusively. Imagine that!

I chose saturated hues and used the Striped Sentiment Strip Cover-Up Die-namics to inlay four colors of card stock. Tassels were a HUGE part of the entire show, so I used the Mini Fringe Die-namics from My Favorite Things to die cut fringe, and then I rolled it into a tassel. The strings of the tassels were created by braiding embroidery floss in a coordinating red.

The tassels were long, embellished, and exaggerated in appearance in the fashion show, so I added card stock circles covered in Diamond Glaze to continue the color scheme and gold sequins surrounding the tassels for extra out-there-ness.

To finish it off, I heat embossed the sentiment from the Whimsical Greetings stamp set in gold for an added touch of luxury and die cut it with the brand new Stitched Sentiment Strips Die-namics.

I had a blast creating together with one of my favourite Canadian crafters!
Thanks for the invite, Marcie!

Isn't that amazing?! I just LOVE Susan's card and we picked the SAME inspiration to work with. We rock. :) Thanks Susan for creating with me this week. I had lots of fun and it really put some pep into my crafty mojo.

Inspired by All the Little Things #36

Saturday means another Inspired by All the Little Things challenge! This week's photo inspiration reminds me of classic Christmas; lots of red and green, and very traditional.

I stamped the Scattered Surface background stamp from My Favorite Things on dark green cardstock for a tone on tone look, then adhered the We Wish You die cut from Memory Box. I paper pieced some patterned paper into the poinsettia flowers, and added lots of sequins and pearls for an elegant look.  Ignore the spot where my glue went crazy and decided to drip right on my finished card. Oh well. :)

Play along with us this week! I can't wait to see what you create based on this pretty inspiration photo. You can link your creation up at the main blog post. Have a great day!

Inspired by All the Little Things

As much as I love bright, bold and glittery, or even non-traditional pinks and blues for Christmas cards, there's something about good ol' red and green that makes my heart happy. The inspiration photo for this week's Inspired by All the Little Things challenge had me wanting to create a basic, fun, traditional Christmas card.

I used a die from Kaisercraft for the main panel of my card. It was cut from green cardstock and trimmed down slightly to fit an A2 panel, then adhered to a white card base. I added some sequins and red shimmer paper for sparkle and shine. This took no time at all and is VERY festive. It might win as my holiday card to mass produce this year!

Thanks for stopping in and be sure to check out the other creations from the amazing design team over at the Inspired By blog. Play along with us; I'd love to see what you come up with!
